A new way of buying local produce and supporting local business is spreading throughout the country. The Food Assembly is a brilliant initiative that began in Paris in 2010 offering an online pre-ordering service that brings people together to buy groceries directly from local farmers and food producers whilst ensuring fair trade and minimal waste.
The Food Assembly is steadily growing and is now up and running across Europe. Turnip the Beet was over the moon on discovering that there is a food assembly right on our doorstep in Milngavie. The Milngavie Food Assembly is brought to us by Gillian, a local pig farmer from Strathblane who describes the food asssembly as an online Farmer's market. Every week you’ll find great products direct from local farms and artisan producers – vegetables, fruit, meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, honey & jam, bread & cakes, ready meals, plus much, much more – amazing produce you may not have found easy to source in the past!
As of last week Turnip the Beet has now joined the Milngavie Food Assembly featuring our weekly changing Friday Take Home Menu along with some of our trademark desserts. If you fancy a Friday night treat that is of guaranteed high quality, great value for money, highly supportive of local producers and minimises waste then the Milngavie Food Assembly awaits you, join up now!
